Timeline
Pat  Worden recruited me for the position vacated by Mike.

Pat and I were featured on a fledgling CNN discussing our
parent-child alphabet learning study.

First MA advisee, Kay Bathurst, joined our faculty after receiving her Ph.D.
Pictured with Professors Jim Dietz and Wacira Gethaiga.

Our foursome placed first at the Seaside Lions Golf Tournament (1999).

Kaybee Parramore was also a MA advisee and now a Duke University Professor.

Super students in my lab: Diane Johnson and Melanie Jones (left), Toni Cafario and Linda Yokoi (center) and Barbara Cherry and Dawn McBride (right)—and many more not pictured.
I was fortunate to have a wonderful staff during my nine years as Department Chair. Sue Maddox, Department Secretary, covered all the bases and made my job look easy. Kay Karlson (in green) managed our graduate programs, and Terry Jones, our tech, took care of everything else.
Years ago with Allen Gottfried and at commencement in 2009.

June Havlena (left) and Iris Bandon-Gitlin (right) hosted my retirement celebration.  Tom Klammer (Dean, center top, said good things) and Chris Cozby (a chair's mentor extraordinaire--center bottom). Wife Judy with Iris and son Matt with Dad.

Dave missed our celebration for Terry,
but I caught up with him

My first academic appointment was in Psychology at University of Southern California. Ph.D. advisees (front row) included Terece Bell, Trish Beuhring, and Susan Siaw

Marty Covington nurtured my early interest in teaching and research, while Bill Rohwer was an inspirational Ph.D. advisor.  In the end, the only sure criterion is to have fun. And I have had fun (expressed by Edward Tolman at this retirement in 1959 and a sentiment I share).
